Community engagement

The North Kensington area has an estimated population over 38,500 and is made up of five wards that are most affected by the disaster.

The area has a rich and vibrant history and is home to communities from many parts of the world, many of whom have remained long term and profoundly shaped the character of the area.
There is a strong sense of community, shaped by many factors including history, population density, migration and faith.

It is the most diverse area of Kensington and Chelsea, with a 36% BAME population and a close-knit, supportive community which is served by over 200 well-established voluntary and community sector organisations.

The 5 wards in North Kensington are :

  • St Helen's
  • Dalgarno
  • Golborne
  • Colville
  • Notting Dale

French, Arabic, Spanish and Italian are the most common languages other than English.

  • In North Kensington there are over 1,800 households where no occupant speaks English as their main language, and over 1,400 residents speak very little to no English.
  • 53% of state school pupils in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea do not speak English as their main language.
