Grenfell Adult Respiratory Long Term Monitoring Service for the Grenfell Tower Fire survivor residents

Supporting your lung health after the Grenfell Tower fire.

What is this service?

The Grenfell Adult Respiratory Long-Term Monitoring Service is a free NHS service for people who were in Grenfell Tower on the night of the fire in June 2017 and may have breathed in smoke or dust.

The service is here to check your lung and breathing health each year, spot any problems early, and make sure you get the right care quickly if needed. You can use this service even if you feel well.

Why does this service exist?

After the Grenfell Tower fire, the Senior Coroner said it was important that people who were exposed to smoke and dust should have long-term health checks, especially for their lungs. This service was set up by the NHS in 2019 so survivors are not left on their own if health problems develop later.

Who is the service for?

This service is for adult Grenfell Tower survivors (aged 18 or over) who were in the Tower on the night of the fire. If you are unsure whether the service is for you, you can contact the team to talk it through.

What can I expect?

Once a year, you will be offered an appointment that includes breathing and lung tests, time to talk about any symptoms or worries, and a clear explanation of your results in plain English. Appointments are unhurried and you will have time to ask questions.

Who provides the service?

The service is run by specialist NHS respiratory doctors and clinicians based at St Mary’s Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. This is part of the NHS’s long-term commitment to Grenfell survivors.
